Challenges facing the retail and FMCG market’s warehouses

High SKU count

Both retail and FMCG businesses deal with a vast variety of products, leading to a high number of Stock Keeping Units (SKUs). Efficient warehouse management systems and strategies are crucial for accurate inventory tracking and avoiding stockouts or overstocking.

Demand fluctuations

Retail and FMCG sales can fluctuate significantly due to seasonal trends, promotions, and sudden changes in consumer preferences. Warehouses need to be adaptable, scaling operations up or down to meet these fluctuations without incurring unnecessary costs.

Balancing speed and accuracy

Fulfilling orders quickly is essential, but accuracy is paramount. Warehouse management needs to be efficient in the storing, picking, packing, and shipping processes to minimise errors while maintaining a fast pace.

Accommodating diverse products

Retail warehouses store a wide range of items, from bulky electronics to delicate clothing. FMCG warehouses handle everything from canned goods to toiletries, requiring solutions for various shapes, sizes, and storage needs. Optimising warehouse space for efficient storage and retrieval is a constant challenge.

Multiple fulfilment channels

Modern retail demands require warehouses to fulfil orders destined for physical stores, online marketplaces, and direct-to-consumer sales. Warehouses need systems and processes to handle this complexity seamlessly.

Solutions from stow for the retail and FMCG market

Storage systems for retail and consumer goods are typically tailored around the specific product range with a high number of SKUs. Shelving must be capable of potentially storing a wide range in a variety of shapes and sizes that can be high in seasonality. Some base-line products do not necessarily need to be accessed promptly, so deep lane storage is an option.

stow’s systems help you to optimise warehouse design and storage solutions with vertical storage systems, zoning for different product categories, and optimised layout for significantly improved space utilisation. Our automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) and conveyor belts can streamline picking, packing, and shipping processes, boosting efficiency and accuracy.

stow Atlas®:
High performance, maximum autonomy

The stow Atlas® pallet shuttle system is a deep lane storage and retrieval system. The heart of the system is a carrier used to move pallets within a specifically designed racking structure. This results in an optimised storage capacity.

stowshelf®: The versatile shelving system

stowshelf® is a modular and versatile shelving solution developed for hand-loaded light to medium-duty storage, up to 250 kg/shelf and 8000 kg/bay. stowshelf® can be applied in many environments. As a traditional shelving system, high-rise shelving, or a multi-tier installation, for manually picking goods or as part of an automated central store.

Increased storage space with drive-in racks

Drive-in racking systems eliminate picking aisles and are the ideal solution for storing large quantities of identical pallets. The system provides safe block stacking for goods, that are not stable enough to be stacked one on top of the other. stow’s Pal Rack® system is particularly suitable to build drive-in installations. The upright widths of up to 140 mm allow us to build very high installations.
