Pallet live storage:
Efficient and ultra-dense storage

Pallet live storage, also known as gravity flow racking or pallet flow racking, optimises warehouse efficiency by utilising gravity and a dynamic storage system. Pallet live storage eliminates the need for workers or forklifts to travel within storage bays to retrieve pallets. Pallets are loaded on one side and gently roll down slightly inclined lanes due to gravity, positioning them at the picking zone on the opposite side. This significantly reduces picking times and expedites order fulfilment, i.e. the tour preparation for trucks.

Overall, pallet live storage offers a dynamic solution for warehouses seeking to significantly improve picking efficiency, optimise space utilisation, and promote FIFO inventory management.

stow’s pallet live storage system provides efficient and ultra-dense storage of palletised goods with fewer aisles. This increases your storage capacity considerably.

Benefits of a Pallet Live
Storage System

01

With a pallet live storage system, fewer aisles are needed. This increases your storage capacity considerably.

02

FIFO-principle and multi-deep storage combined

03

Back-up stock can be stored in each lane facilitating order processing.

04

The long storage lanes allow handling of large volumes of common products with live storage.

05

Pallet live storage helps you reduce energy costs: lighting is limited to the load and unload areas. The refrigerating costs in cold stores becomes a lot lower as they are related to the filled cubic volume of the warehouse.

More advantages of stow’s pallet live storage

By eliminating the need for forklifts to enter storage lanes for retrieval, Pallet live storage minimises the risk of accidents and injuries associated with forklift operation within narrow aisles.

It also improves inventory management. Because pallet live storage inherently promotes a First-In-First-Out (FIFO) inventory management system, it ensures that older stock is accessed first, minimising the risk of expired or outdated items lingering in the warehouse.

You can also use the LIFO (last-in/first-out) principle. In this case, the pallets are loaded and unloaded from the same side. The forklift pushes the pallets into their storage location, and they are returned by the force of gravity if pallets are taken out.

The rollers: crucial for the system

Brake rollers

Brake rollers control and secure the traveling speed of the pallets, ensuring a safe gravity system.

  • Diameter: 80 mm
  • Max pallet weight: 1400 kg
  • Max pallet speed: 0,3 m/s

Brake rollers can be foreseen with gummi coating in case metal pallets are stored, to avoid pallets slipping over the brake rollers.

Roller Tracks and Components

The shape, handling direction, weight and the quality of the pallets are the determining factors for the design of the live storage system. For some pallets only twin (or even triple) track rollers can be used (for instance handling pallets at their 1200 mm face for picking operations). The twin track rollers are also used at the loading and unloading sections if the forks of the lifttruck cannot be tilted.
